Circuits

As we said your circulatory system goes through your whole body.

We can break the circulatory system up into 2 circuits. This is called a double circulatory system. It has two separate circuits, the blood passes through the heart twice.

The pulmonary circuit and systemic circuit.

Pulmonary circuit

As you’ve probably guessed, the pulmonary circuit has to do with the lungs and heart.

The Pulmonary circuit transports blood to the lungs, there the blood is oxygenated and brought back to the heart.

Carbon dioxide is diffused out into the lungs, and oxygen is diffused into the red blood cells.

 Systemic circuit

The systemic circuit transports blood around the whole body.

It transports oxygen to the muscles and organs of the body, while taking all the carbon dioxide and other waste products away.
