These joints are the most common in the body. They have the greatest range of movement. Each synovial joint has the same components.

Synovial

Joints

Cartilage decreases the friction between the joint. It also acts as a shock absorber.

Synovial membrane produces synovial fluid

Synovial fluid lubricates the joint.

Tendon joins muscle to bone (movement)

Ligament joins bone to bone (stabilising)

We can break Synovial joints into 6 types

Hinge

Pivot

ball and socket

saddle

Condyloid

Gliding
