Non-renewable

Resource

Non- renewable resources are resources which can’t be reused. Once we use 10 kg of Coal, there is 10kg less in the world. They take a very long time to re-generate.

We can break non-renewable energy into 2 categories, Fossil fuels and Nuclear Fuels.

Pros and Cons of non-Renewable energy resources

Pros

Cons

Cheap and readily available

Australia has a large amount of fossil fuels

Produces a large amount of energy

They will eventually run out as we are using them faster than the earth can re-generate them

Produces large amounts of photochemical pollution.

Can cause acid rain from sulphur dioxide

Produces green house gases, contributing to global warming.

Both fossil fuels and nuclear fuel both generate electricity by boiling water and using the steam to turn a turbine.
